NYK LNG Shipmanagement Ltd has grown to the world leading company as LNG ships’ operator.
The number of direct and indirect LNG vessels is respectively 34 and 26 underoperations of NYK LNG Shipmanagement Ltd. (Scheduled for the end of December, 2024)

What is LNG?: LNG stands for Liquefied Natural Gas and primarily consists of methane. LNG is colorless and transparent. It is cooled to -162 degree Celsius to be converted from gas to liquid form. In light of global environment, this eco-friendly and clean energy encourages growth of the LNG market.

Engine Plant of LNG Carriers

〔Reheated Steam Turbine Plant〕

The boiler generates high pressure steam at 12 MPa / 565℃ by transferring the heat of combustion of BOG*1 , and it is used as the main propulsion engine of LNG carriers.

〔DFDE Propulsion system〕

DFDE: Dual Fuel Diesel Electric Propulsion. DFDE propulsion system uses either oil or gas to generate electricity for propulsion motor. DFDE propulsion system improves fuel efficiency.

Propulsion motor: Gas fueled four-stroke engine

Dual Fuel Diesel Electric Propulsion

New delivery vessels will be equipped with Twin propeller and cutting-edge propulsion system such as hybrid propulsion system of Reheated Steam Turbine and DFDE system, Gas fueled two-stroke engine or etc.

*1 Boil Off Gas (BOG): Despite of tank insulation, the admission of external heat causes a little evaporation of LNG. This evaporation is called as BOG.
